![]() COLLECTIONS SECTIONThe Collections Section within the Office of General Counsel was established to collect outstanding civil penalties for all Divisions of DENR. After enforcement staff within each division has issued a notice of violation, if the violator does not respond within a specified time frame the penalty becomes an "Assessed Penalty". The responsible party then has 30 days to correct the violation and if it is not resolved it becomes an "Established Penalty." It is at this point that cases are referred to the Collections Section for further action. The Collections team at this point pursues all possible venues from calls to correspondence to collect on the cases. If the violator fails to respond either through payment or mutually agreed upon payment arrangements within roughly a 60-day time span the case is forwarded to the Attorney Generals' Office for future collection.
